Demonstrating intangible assets online
IR Magazine
August 25, 2005, by Dea Katel
The recent focus on communicating the value of intangible assets is changing the IR services industry. Thomson Financial, for instance, has formed a strategic partnership with New York-based Reel Biography, a custom digital video branding company, to produce video webcasts that help companies communicate the value of their intangible assets like human capital.

There has been a lot of talk in the IR area of trying to demonstrate intangibles and there has been a lot of work in companies trying to quantify the value of these intangibles,' explains Greg Radner, senior vice president of Thomson's product management team. 'Our clients were asking us for ways they could get across some of their intangibles - the biggest of which is the human capital of their management.' Radner feels Thomson's alliance with Reel will help bring these intangibles to life.

A Reel-World Look at Your Company
Family Business Magazine
Summer 2005, by Barbara Spector
'For a Family Business it's a two-fer,' says Marco Greenberg. 'What we do can be a great keepsake for the family, but also a promotion for the business'...The company's films are unscripted documentaries featuring interviews with one or more family members as well as employees, customers, and others. Interviews that elicit the emotional connection between family members and their pride in their company can convey the unique selling proposition of a family business, Greenberg says. 'If the pieces are done right, they can serve multiple needs and have a long shelf life.'

Being in the Game of Life - The Mark Mehl Story

Special thanks to Bob Franco, Endorphin Publisher
July 2005
In order to best capture Mark's story in his own element and at his own pace, and with minimal impact on his physical surroundings, Reel Biography went to extra lengths in developing a means of producing and shooting at least 50% of this film remotely from their New York Headquarters. Reel Biography's novel ‘Remote Video Production’ system (patent pending) enabled them to film over the course of 2 weeks, in broadcast quality over a two-way internet connection, and without the continual need and expense of an onsite production crew at Mark's home in Connecticut.

We're seeing higher response rates than our brochure mailings at lower cost, all while conveying the engaging, personal feel that we want potential clients to have about our small company.

The importance people attach to home movies is increasing...Marco Greenberg, founder of Reel Biography (reelbiography.com), a Manhattan-based firm that produces broadcast-quality personal biographies, finds that more of his clients want to incorporate old family video. He speculates that recent documentaries like ''Capturing the Friedmans'' and ''My Architect'' -- both heavy on decades-old scenes recorded with imperfect consumer cameras -- may have opened people's eyes to the possibilities. 'Old home movies are proving to be an authentic, well-received touch' in his company's work, Mr. Greenberg said.

The company was already producing videotape biographies for the not-so-famous. Founder Marco Greenberg thought there might be an untapped niche market for helping people get jobs. 'You can't reduce a human being to an 8-by-11 piece of paper, nor can you reduce to a few words what new software does,' said Greenberg. 'We're trying to capture their essence, what you can't say on a resume.' Greenberg says his company coaches people, then interviews the job-seeker on videotape. The edited presentation can be mailed or e-mailed to prospective employers.
